I mainly find inspiration in my inner world and feelings, always influenced by the fact of being a foreigner in Denmark and a 'close-to-middle-age' woman. In these paintings I lose control over the narrative as I explore and expose my very subconscious mind. It is a difficult and fascinating exercise to translate the not-always understandable dimensions of a dream into my very two-dimensional art.

Colorful abstract painting with intricate linear patterns, swirling shapes, and overlapping designs in blue, green, and yellow hues.

My main inspiration, besides the recurring musical references are abstract expressionists, as well as cave paintings and other visual imprints made throughout history - simple, immediate marks that come out as figurative shapes in an abstract framework, like in this submitted work, 'Verdant Trace'. For this one, I chose to go for a reductive approach - so rather than adding strokes to indicate the immediate, unplanned marks, they're made by scraping off the paint of the first few layers. This somehow primitive approach is something I would imagine could be used if someone were to pass on messages using organic materials. I feel like it fits well with the glyph-like symbols and patterns.

Abstract expressionist painting with bold red, blue, and black brushstrokes creating a dynamic, textured composition.

MATHILDE VOGEL: HIDE AND SEEK IN THE CORAL REEF

STATUS: AVAILABLE

The mostly large-format works by self-thought painter Linda Meli are created using oil, oil pastel, chalk and acrylic on second-hand tablecloths, canvas and raw linen. Her colorful and expressive figurative paintings depict people, alone and in all their complex interpersonal relationships and stories. They smoke obliviously or lean towards each other in a intimate posture. Painted in bright colors in a graphically clear visual language, they carry a strangely dreamy, otherworldly mood that allows the viewer to conjure up similar situations from their own past.

Born on Møn. Studying on Bornholm. Mentally in Miami.

Every project starts as a vision of contemporary opulence. A swift expression, like a crocodile leaping out of the water, jaw wide open. I’m driven by the need to experience peak level dopamine action through creativity.

I work both sculpturally and traditionally in blown glass. I paint on unbleached paper, with heavy textile colors. My current obsessions are the Catholic Church and Russian prison tattoos.
I aim to imbue everything I do with the pastiche of aggression and a kinetic sense of punk chic.

Surreal artwork of a person wearing a brown, rock-like hat, holding apple-shaped objects with the same texture, set against a background of twisted, vine-like structures and sky.

The painting I am submitting is titled Exist. It is oil on canvas, 80x100 cm, made in 2024. The painting is based on an image that popped up in my head when I was going through long and tiring fertility treatments.

To me, the woman in the painting represents the feeling of being overwhelmed by existential thoughts, and the apples cut in stone represent infertility. The apples in her arms represent the baby she never had.

My work exists at the intersection of art, textiles, and materiality, reflecting our relationship with nature, consumption, and climate change. I create with yarn, shaping textured textile pieces that balance between beauty and destruction—often with a playful use of color and depth.

I am driven by a fascination with the language of textures and the history of materials. My work explores how craft and art can merge to spark reflection on our time and the objects we surround ourselves with.

I've been painting for 23 years and started out with surrealism and brushes, but lately I've been into bold-coloured, expressionistic palette knife technique, always commenting on society or general human tendensies through a more concrete and simple motif.

This piece is 80x100 cm., acrylic paint on canvas. It's my latest creation, and I think it represents my general style pretty well. I tend to avoid descriptive titles as I want the art to speak for itself, and for the viewer to interpret it freely, so this one (like most of my paintings) is untitled.

I was in the S-train with my friend. on the other side of the train there is an older ma, he has a suitcase and his beanie all the way down over his face... after some time he takes up a bottle of vodka where he takes the biggest zip I have ever seen somebody take of vodka. he had no reaction. after some tome there comes a "kontrollør" and gives hime a ticket, he tries to deny the ticket but completely without words, only grunts and gestures. he looks over at us takes the ticket smiles and rips it in half while looking me deep in the eye. that was a very impactful and interesting situation. was he homeless?. the suitcase?. with vodka?. is that the first time?. is that the last time?. no one that I talk about the painting with can guess that that is the thing im painting. but I love that! I love that people can connect their own impactful situation.
